KGIC FAQ's
3. What can I expect when I take my test?

The OPIc consists of four parts: Volume Check, Self Assessment, Background Survey, and Test.

First, you will be asked to conduct a Volume Check. This is a simple tool created to ensure that your microphone is working and that your speech will be recorded correctly.

Next, you will be asked to provide information about your speaking ability by filling out a Self-Assessment. The Self Assessment presents you with “can-do” statements about your language proficiency. This helps the OPIc generate a test that will assess the full range of your ability.

The OPIc is customized to reflect the interests and language level of the individual test taker. In order for your personal test to be generated, you will be asked to fill out a Background Survey as the third part of your OPIc exam. The survey will ask you questions about work, school, hobbies and daily life. The OPIc will use this information to create your test.

At this point your OPIc test will begin. You will be asked to respond to a series of speaking tasks and your responses to those questions will be digitally recorded.

4. How is the OPIc structured?

You will be asked 12-15 prompts at various levels of difficulty. You will be given the opportunity to hear the prompt twice before you speak. You will be given a preset amount of time to respond based on the difficulty of the task.

Additionally, every OPIc contains a role-play. The role-play presents you with a “real life” situation and asks you to provide a response based on that situation
