The OPIc is designed to determine what you can do in a language by comparing your digitally recorded speech sample to levels of proficiency (Novice Low to Advanced Low) described in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines (click link for info).

The OPIc itself averages about 20 – 30 minutes.
7. What is the highest rating I can get on the OPIc?
Although the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines range from Novice Low to Superior, the OPIc is designed to test proficiency from Novice Low to Advanced Low. It is at the Advanced level that the majority of native communication in the language takes place.
