KGIC FAQ's
8. What is contained in each prompt?

Each prompt is structured to elicit a speaking task reflective of a specific proficiency level in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines – Speaking.

Additionally, the OPIc is designed to mimic a true conversation, so that for each question you answer, a follow up question on the same topic is usually asked, requiring you to expand in some way on what you have said.

This ensures that you demonstrate the ability to spontaneously create with the language, and it gives the Rater an opportunity to see if you can perform at the next level

Though some of the questions are about the same topic, they address different aspects of the topic. Part of your rating is based on your ability to specifically address what is being asked of you in the prompt, not just your ability to speak on the topic.

9. Am I required to answer all questions?

A candidate should be able to respond in some way to every question on the OPIc. It is always better to give the best response one can give than to skip a prompt altogether. You will not be rated on the factual accuracy of what you say, but rather on your ability to communicate in the language.
