KGIC FAQ's
10. I took the OPIc, and it kept asking me questions about the same topic? Is this an error in the system?

The OPIc is designed to mimic a true conversation, so that for each question you answer, a follow up question is usually asked that will require you to expand on what you have said.

This ensures that you demonstrate the ability to spontaneously create with the language, and it gives the rater an opportunity to see if you can perform at the next higher level.

Though the questions are about the same topic, they address different aspects of the topic. Part of your rating is based on your ability to specifically address what is being asked of you, not just your ability to speak on the topic.

11. What if I choose the wrong level on the self-assessment?

It is highly recommended that you choose the form that you believe most accurately represents your ability.

However, the OPIc is structured so that each form provides opportunities to test a range of skills and to provide opportunities to perform at the next higher level.

Additionally, you are rated not only on your ability to perform the task requested, but on the type of language you produce. For example, Intermediate level questions appear on all three forms. But a test taker can answer an Intermediate task like a Novice, like an Intermediate, or like an Advanced speaker.

For this same reason, you can not improve your rating by choosing an “easier” form
